Happy Valentine's Day!

IMG_6898

Happy Valentine's Day from Meghann, Simon and Elizabeth, our little sweetheart!

Lizzy is doing well this week. We've had another head ultrasound, which again showed no signs of a brain-bleed. Last Wednesday, she was put back on the ventilator after almost three days on the CPAP, but her little lungs got to tired to go any further. After a week break being back on the ventilator, the doctors are talking about taking her off again today.

After tests showing very low sodium levels, Lizzy had a renal ultrasound, which showed that her kidneys were functioning fine, just small and premature. Yesterday's tests showed that her red blood cell count was low, so she had another transfusion, which will hopefully help with her breathing and oxygen requirements.

She now weighs 1 lb. 13 oz.! My breastmilk is being fortified with extra calories to help her bulk up. As you can see from the photo above, she loves her binky (pacifier, or dummy, if you're in the UK) and we give it to her often. When it's not in her mouth, she tends to suck on her vent tube!

Thank you for all of your continued prayers and support. We are all hanging in there. Every day is a different. Some are up, some are down, but we're riding the waves.

We are so thankful to have each other and our sweet Lizzy on this Valentine's Day.

It's so lovely to hear the fabulous progress lil eLIZABETH IS MAKING. She looks very alert and calm in her photo. Suckling is a gr8 way for premature babies to relax as it acts as a pain reliever. I am so please she is making progress. Best wishes,
Jo xxx

So glad she is doing well! My son was off and on the ventilator for a bit. Feeding her the breastmilk is awesome too. It will give her a bit of an edge toward weight gain and will also help her tummy. My son had a lot of acid reflux, but the breastmilk helped. Sending valentine's hugs to Lizzy with thought for her to keep getting stronger.

So, here is something I never think about - how hard it must be to breathe when you are just starting out, like Lizzie. Now that you have said it, tho, I have had an aha! moment. You're looking SO GOOD, Lizzie!!! Like you are conquering your mountains one at a time. From this picture, she appears to have your nose, Meghann...is that true? How adorable that she has already taken a liking to the paci! Still praying and standing for your little family!!!
